What we do
We specialise in producing custom whitewalls in virtually any diameter, width, style (dual stripes, colour combinations) and colour. Our system uses a flexible, heat-resistant rubber based coating that won’t peel or crack when applied and maintained correctly.
How it works
- We prepare the tyre by carefully removing the glossy outer surface.
- The coating is applied in thin, even layers with the tyre rotating for a perfect circle.
- Initial colour is bright white; it cures to an authentic off-white (like factory whitewalls).
Limitations
- Brand-new tyres: oils in new rubber can discolour the coating (especially white). We recommend at least ~4,000-5,000kms use before coating. If “new” is a must, consider quality second-hand tyres.
- Sidewall design and condition can influence achievable width and style.
Legalities (NZTA extract)
NZTA’s WOF inspection rules specify that a tyre is unwarrantable if any of the following information has been removed, concealed, or obscured such that the tyre can no longer be identified: manufacturer, brand, model, load rating, speed rating, standards markings, or direction of rotation (where applicable).
Bottom line: we can create almost any look—however, if a desired style requires removal of any tyre information, those tyres are whitewalled strictly on a “Show Purposes Only” basis.
Care tips
- Routine clean: mild soapy water and a soft sponge.
- Heavy soiling: a good non-solvent multi-purpose cleaner, then rinse well.
- No silicone dressings: they attract dirt and may yellow the coating (true for factory whitewalls too).
- If you insist on new tyres: a non-solvent multi-purpose cleaner helps maintain the finish; you may re-coat after the recommended travel, (4-5000kms).
FAQs
How long will they last?
With proper care, potentially the life of the tyre. They can be re-coated if required.
Will they peel or crack?
No. They only crack if the tyre’s sidewall has pre-existing cracks.
Can I drive on them right away?
Yes. You can drive immediately; full curing takes around 24 hours.
Are they legal?
Yes and no. If there’s a clear sidewall band for the whitewall (no ID information removed), you’re fine. If markings must be removed, the tyre becomes unwarrantable and is for Show Purposes Only. See the NZTA guidance.
Will the structural integrity of the tyre be affected?
No. As the NZTA defines:
“Tyre carcass means the structural part of a pneumatic tyre other than the tread and outermost rubber of the sidewalls that, when inflated, contains the gas that supports the load.”
We only need to remove surface gloss and raised elements of the sidewall.
